10th Bicyclist Killed in Tampa Bay Area Since Late July

Another bicyclist was killed last night.

This time it happened while the bicyclist was crossing Little Road at Jasmine Blvd. in Port Richey in Pasco County Sunday night. He was 46.

Be careful at intersections -- they are danger zones.

And it was after dark -- about 7:18 PM. In general, always make yourself visible.

The St. Pete Times story says he was at the crosswalk, but did not have the crossing signal.

The story did not have much more details.

The chick that hit him only had 50 traffic citations in the last 14 years and was a habitual offender. WOW ! 50 ! No matter who's fault it was, what is this accident waiting to happen lady doing behind the wheel in the first place ? She should be bannished to alternative forms of transportation like maybe bicycle commuting were she can speed and ride with a suspended license all she wants.

Actually, this is the 11th bicyclist killed in the Tampa Bay Area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties) since late July.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, on July 26th, Francisco Guante-Ramirez, age 70, was riding his bicycle and crashed into a car at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Lakewood Drive, which is north of Brandon. He died the next day at Tampa General Hospital, just two days before LeRoy Collins Jr. was killed. Here's the link to the news release from the Sheriff's Office about the crash.
