Pedaling Centuries To DC

My bike pal Ellen Pierson is cranking out those miles on the Long Ride of the Police Unity Tour, which is taking her from Jacksonville to Washington, DC.

She pumped out 115 miles on Sunday and another 119 miles on Monday in South Carolina. She also informed me she burned 4742 calories as she pedaled 16.4 mph Monday.

Ellen says, "We met with several survivors of SC officers that had been killed in the line of duty. I had met several of these folks before at past rides. The families are so thankful for us honoring their loved ones. We enjoyed lunch at the FOP lodge with local law enforcement officers.

"We then pedaled our way to Georgetown, SC where we met with the Chief of Police and several other survivors. We were treated to a lovely dinner at the Police Department and homemade desserts from area familes. Officers from Mrytle Beach with join us on the 75 mile ride on May 4 to their city."

National Bike Month Activities Here In Tampa Bay

May is National Bike Month. And while Florida celebrates its bike month in March because of the usually good weather, the rest of the country has a slew of bike events to get people on bikes in March. But there's still lots of fun bicycle things to do in May in Florida and Tampa Bay.

THURSDAY, MAY 13, 4:45 PM -- Bike ride to transit tax hearing.
Leaves from Seminole Heights Garden Center, 5800 Central Ave.
SWFBUD's six-mile bike ride to All People's Life Center, 6105 East Sligh Ave., for 6 PM transit tax hearing to tell the county commissioners that bicycling is an essential part of any transportation and transit plan.

SATURDAY, MAY 22, 3-6 PM -- The Hub Grub Ride Returns!

Back By Popular Demand, Hub Grub Bicycle Ride Is Set For May 22, 3-6PM

Get ready for Hub Grub Bicycle Ride II -- Seminole Height's Bicycle Club's popular restaurant tour by bike.

It's set for May 22 from 3-6 PM starting at the Garden Center, 5810 Central Avenue in Tampa.

I am working on setting the schedule of bike stops at each restaurant.

But I can reveal one tasty bike treat -- the Hub Grub Ride will include biking THROUGH Ella's restaurant!

On The Road To DC

Nice to hear from the road from my bike pal Ellen, who is biking with her law enforcement comrades from Jacksonville to Washington, D.C. as part of th Long Ride of the Police Unity Tour. Today is Day 3 for Ellen.

Pedaling For Bicycle Candidate Linda Saul-Sena

Every candidate has a bumper sticker for cars, but there weren't any who used bicycles to advertise their candidacy -- well, until Linda Saul-Sena came along.

Linda, a big friend of bicyclists who stands up for bicycling on the Tampa City Council, made campaign tags to tie onto bike seats. Linda is running for Hillsborough County Commissioner. Here, Laura Starkey of Seminole Heights shows her support for Linda via the bicycle.

Great Morning For A Club Family Ride Around Seminole Heights

This morning the Seminole Heights Bicycle Club had a terrific showing for our easy and slow family Ride. We had 20 riders of all ages bike the 6-mile loop down 12th Street to the Hillsborough River and back around Lake Roberta to our starting point.
We had three bikes with kid carriers mounted on the frames.
