Rose Ferlita's Office Responds To Connector Trail Request

Jack "The Ghostrider" Sweeney contacted the Hillsborough County commissioners about a proposal to link the Upper Tampa Bay Trail with the Suncoast Trail, which would make that the longest continuous paved trail in the state of Florida.

Mark Thornton, the county's parks director, recommended against spending $12 million in community tax investment money for the 7-mile connection, though the county would be REIMBURSED for $7 million of it by the DOT.

Here is a response to Jack Sweeney from Commissioner Rose Ferlita's office.

Mr. Sweeney:

Commissioner Ferlita has received your email and appreciates your input and
comments.

For your information, no final decisions have yet been made as the budget
process is still ongoing. The public is able to be heard during the "public
hearings" portion of the process. The next public hearings are scheduled for
July 17, September 9 and September 18 all at 6 p.m. in the County Center. We
encourage you to attend one or more of the hearings to express your opinion.
In the meantime, a copy of your email will be placed on Rose's desk for her
review.

Thank you for taking the time to write.

At least this was a much more positive response than Mark Sharpe's "ain't gonna happen" email I got from his office!

For the record, Rose Ferlita RULES -- I hope she continues to be the smart voice on the BOCC.

I received the same e-mail in response, hopefully the connector still happens. Outside of Bayshore Blvd., I can't think of anywhere in Tampa that consistently attracts more riders, skaters, walkers, and joggers.
