Revisiting The Big W

When in doubt where to bike? Don't fret.

Throw your bike in the car and head for State Road 50 off of Interstate 50 and look for the Withlachoochee Trail. It's that bridge spanning SR 50 a couple miles east of I-75. Turn left at the light before the bridge and park on the right in the trailhead lot.

The Big W - 40 miles of marvelous pavement following a rails-to-trails easement -- cuts a lovely rubbon through leafy canopy from Trilby off Route 301 all the way through Inverness at the nrothern end.

It's been a while since I rode the Big W and this afternoon it was calling.

The star is the trail. So much canopy. In a state that tends to blacktop everywhere, it's a linear gem.

Bike shops are popping up along the trail. I saw this bike shop sign at Mile 16 at Istachatta

The owner of this bike shop in Floral Center at Mile 23 used to fix bikes in his house off the trail at the Citrus-Hernando county line. He's the fella in the bright yellow shirt.

Anyone can ride a recumbent.

These guys are in Inverness around Mile 30.
