I think they're brilliant. Instead of having to fight my way to a position where I can make a left-turn before I get to the light (which is usually impossible without cutting off multi-ton metal boxes traveling at obscene speeds), I can wait until I get there and just move over to where I need to be.

Would make life safer for cyclists and pedestrians (as cars would be less likely to stop right next to or in crosswalks).
