Tampa BayCycle kicked off Bike Month today at 10 AM with a downtown Tampa proclamation where members of the St. Petersburg Bike Club met a hearty crew of Tampa bicyclists who biked from the USF area and Seminole Heights areas.
The Tampa cyclists included Julie Bond of Tampa BayCycle and Phyliss from CUTR; Gena Torres, the local Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee coordinator and Seminole Heights Bicycle Club members Ken Sturrock and Steve Swiger. And I biked along too. Don't forget -- there's a bicycle-theme photograph show opening from 5-7 PM tonight at 200 North Tampa Street in downtown Tampa. Free refreshments.
Here's the Tampa crew following a bike lane down Tampa Street into downtown Tampa.
The Lightning's mascot, ThunderBug, biked in with the cyclists at Franklin Street near Tampa City Hall. Mary Milne, the Lightning/Forum events director, is a big bicyclist and helped arrange Thunder Bug's cameo. By the way, if you're wondering what it's like to start a career in mascotism, check this out. Mascot Career
There's the finish line.
