Myakka River State Park

Myakka River State Park is an old-time signature state park complete with old-fashion outpost souvenir store, boat ride, terrific canopy bridge and wonderful trails for bird-watching and frequent gator sightings. I visited the state park this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the open savannah grasslands that are also part of the park's land holdings.

Easy to get there -- just take I-75 south to State Road 72 in the Sarasota area and head east about nine miles. Park will be on the left side of SR 72.
