Seems like every time a bicyclist is struck by a car, police seem to think it was the bicyclist's fault. As if we're guilty of, I guess, just being there. My pal Willie from North Carolina sent me an interesting item about bicycle-car crashes.
Interesting, and I agree with the thrust of it (that the more cycling is embraced, the less dangerous it is), mainly because people don't have the "get on the sidewalk!" mentality while driving.
The first line caught my interest though: "Accident rates per kilometer are 26 to 48 times higher for bikes than for automobiles" since I've seen analysis which seems to contradict it, at least in the United States. Also, this article is fascinating to read in general.
