Bicyclist Killed in Brooksville

Another bicycle tragedy -- a bicyclist killed in Brooksville.

According to the St. Pete Times story, he was struck while bicycling against traffic.

"According to the report, James Jr. was riding south along the outer white line of the northbound lane near Tampa Street at about 3:45 p.m."

Please folks, always bike WITH the flow of traffic.

Sadly, the type of people who cycle against traffic are not the type of people who are going to be reading a cycling blog, or even bother to find out the rules of the road to begin with.

I don't want to get into class distinctions or anything like that, but it's the difference between a "cyclist", and a "guy on a bike". I think the majority of the bicycle related accidents I see in Florida involve the latter. The loss of life is still tragic. And at the risk of sounding selfish, too many more incidents of that nature and we'll get our vehicular privileges curtailed.

Agree w Todd. Also, they are one more hazard to those riding on the correct side of the street.
