Breaking News: Another Tampa Bicyclist Killed This Morning

Another bicyclist in Tampa has been killed in the past hour.

A local FOX TV news producer just told me about the confirmed bicyclist fatality at Himes and Spruce.

It's the sixth bicyclist death in the past 2 months. I am appearing on FOX News at 9:40 this morning to talk bicycling.

If you are a bicyclist, call Pam Iorio at 813-274-8903 and demand that she show leadership and identify bicycle safety as a TOP priority and attend the next City Council meeting at 9 AM OCT 7 and demand the city take immediate action to make our roadways safer for bicyclists.

I will be giving a powerpoint presentation at that Oct. 7 City Council meeting about bicycle infrastructure based on my trip to Denver two months ago when I documented bike infrastructure in the metro Denver area.

Take action now.

Call the mayor.

Attend government meetings.

Speak out.

And see you at the Honor the Fallen memorial bike ride later today at 7 PM leaving from in front of the Seminole Heights Garden Center at 5800 Central Ave. in Tampa, a quarter-mile north of Hillsborough Avenue.

The lady killed was waiting on the sidewalk to cross the street. It could have been a walker or anyone at the wrong place at the wrong time with a freak accident. I do not think this is in the same class as the USF researcher.
