Seems like every week brings a new slew of cool bicycle stories from around Tampa Bay and the country -- and even Canada. Bicycle Stories offers this roundup.
First, I appeared on behalf of SWFBUD Tuesday morning before the Pinellas County Commissioners Tuesday to invite the commissioners ti the 2009 Bicycle Bash by the Bay, which is set for Oct. 11 in St. Petersburg. While in Clearwater, I also stopped off at Clearwater City Hall to invite Mayor Hibbard, the city council and other city staffers to the BBbtB.
I'll be attending the St. Petersburg City Council Thursday to invite the council members to the 2009 Bicycle Bash by the Bay.
Good ol' Canadian Nick Griffiths, a New Tampa bike commuter who pedals to his job at Moffitt every day, sends me a story about Canadian bicyclists killed on a Diabetes fundraiser ride and the driver who struck the cyclists being charged with the crime a year after the tragedy. Besides the two bicyclists who were killed, two cyclists were also injured.
Former Seattlite Ed Hillsman, who now works at the Center of Urban Transportation Research at USF, sends me this interesting item from the Seattle Times regarding an online mapping tool that promotes bike safety.
All-around bicycle good guy Jim Shirk and John Harrison of the Hillsborough County trails committee sends me an announcement about Hillsborough County holding a ribbon-cutting at the Northdale Lake Park Trail at 2 PM on Friday. The address is 5354 W. Northdale Blvd, Tampa 33624,
And finally, Bob Roll is appearing Thursday at the grand opening of the Just Ride Bicycles bike shop at Fish Hawk/Riverview. Just Ride Bicycles is a SWFBUD store and owned by David Luppino. Bike with Bob Roll from 10AM-12Noon (you must be able to bike at least 18 mph on the ride) and meet Bob for autographs and a Q and A from 6-9 PM at the store, located at 13431 Boyette Road, Riverview 33569. Call David at 813-503-9460 for more information.
